New gambling mag debuts in March

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

The new Gambling.com Magazine is set to make its debut later this month.

It will be the only independent VIP magazine written for online high-rollers and will be a full-colour lifestyle glossy publication.

Magazine editor Michael Caselli says the new publication has an intended readership of around 100,000.

He said: “With high production values, it’s the careful blend of entertainment, strategy and cutting edge design, along with a degree of synergy with content from the website that makes this magazine a cut above the rest.

“This is very much a ‘coffee-table style’ magazine which we believe will have a very long ‘shelf life’ and our readers will be able to refer to time and time again.”

The first issue will feature interviews with billionaire Virgin owner Richard Branson and also Jennifer Harman, the world-famous high-stakes female poker player.

Online WSOP champ encourages others

Tuesday, March 7th, 2006

Chris Moneymaker, the online poker amateur who went on to win the World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournament, has been encouraging other players to follow in his footsteps.

By qualifying online, Moneymaker’s win has been attributed to boosting the popularity of online poker and also as a unifying factor between land-based and online casinos.

WSOP media director, Nolan Dalla, said: “This is the sonic boom of poker…This means anyone in their home can become a poker player.”

The lucky player known only as “Money” to his friends spoke of his winning tournament, which took place at Binion’s Horseshoe & Casino back in 2003.

He said: “I was a little underestimated because no one knew who I was. If I can win the World Series of Poker, anybody can.”

This year’s 2005 International Casino Exhibition (ICE) gained record attendance levels.

The event, which was held in London in January, managed to attract a total number of 9,700 visitors, according to figures from Clarion ATE.

New poker clothing in pipeline

Monday, March 6th, 2006

A clothing store popular with some of Hollywood’s biggest names is set to introduce a new line of poker playing apparel.

The move means we could soon see the likes of Sly Stallone, Nicholas Cage, Robin Williams and good old Arnie Schwarzenegger wearing specially designed poker robes.

All the aforementioned stars already shop at Billy Martin’s stores, which are famed for their American frontier-style clothing.

However, Mr Martin has decided to branch out into branded poker apparel and has enlisted the help of poker player Victor Goulding to help him do so.

The 92-year-old Goulding will give Billy Martin’s creations, which include a gold poker bracelet, cowboy boots and a three-pocket vest, their debut at this year’s World Series of Poker (WSOP).

New WPT hostess shows off body

Monday, March 6th, 2006

Courtney Friel, the new World Poker Tour (WPT) hostess, is demonstrating her assets with a newly released video online.

The video will be shown on Maxim Online and will show Ms Friel dressed up in some flattering lingerie.

As well as displaying her fantastic natural attributes, Ms Friel is also photographed lying seductively across a poker table with stacks of chips surrounding her.

Presumably this is set to remind the many red-blooded males watching her flexible antics that in her day job she is a hard-hitting poker presenter.

Ms Friel, who is in her first month in the WPT position, has recently been in a poker training camp getting up to speed on the big plays and players that she can expect to commentate on during the WPT.

Man names horse after poker pro

Friday, March 3rd, 2006

Racehorse owner, Jim Switlyk, has made the unusual choice of naming his prized filly after a world famous poker pro.

That’s right, New Jersey-born Switlyk decided to name his new horse after one of the biggest female names on the tournament circuit, Annie Duke.

And seeing as the young filly was descended from horses called “Annie’s Surprise” and “Cam’s Card Shark,” Switlyk thought it particularly apt to name her Annie Duke.

Although she has only been racing for two weeks, Ms Duke is impersonating her namesake by already showing some impressive form.

And apparently, Switlyk has some more poker-related names up his sleeve for future horses.

These include Fossilman after the WSOP 2004 champion Greg Raymer, Howard Lederer and The Professor after Annie Duke’s brother.
