The Great Poker League (GPL) has found a new champion in Christine Irlam.

She will receive the top prize of $1,500 for her efforts in winning the 13,000-strong league.

With female poker players an increasing demographic, Irlam whose nickname is Squiddley is a positive figurehead for the industry.

Colin Hawker, director of the GPL, said: “Sqiddley was a deserved winner. We are delighted to have one of our players taking first prize so soon after we launched.

“I can’t wait to present Sqiddley with [her] cheque,” he added.

The GPL began on February 15th and has total prize pool of $50,000.
