Boxing champ floored by WSOP knockout

The former undisputed boxing champion Lennox Lewis failed to survive the first round of the World Series of Poker (WSOP).

The heavyweight star, who represented Canada at the 1988 Olympics but fought for Britain during his professional career, was ousted by a good play from Cecilia Mortensen, the wife of professional poker player Carlos Mortensen.

Lewis’ Ace-ten lost out to Mortensen’s Ace-Queen but he was said to have enjoyed himself.

“In boxing you know what cards are going to be dealt. In this you don’t,” said the star, when asked to explain the difference between poker and boxing.

Lewis was widely regarded as an outsider for the main title and so it proved, heading home with around 6,000 other players before the second round.

Actress Shannon Elizabeth and Jennifer Tilly were also spotted at the tables during the first four days of play.
