Gross looks to ladies event in Arizona

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

Vicki Gross has set her sights on becoming the inaugural winner of the Arizona State Ladies Poker Championship later this month.

Around 400 female poker players will meet on September 16th at Arizona Casino to contest the event, reports the Arizona Republic.

And following her recent World Series of Poker (WSOP) $2,800 win, observers are already tipping Gross to do well later this month.

The winner of the event will bag themselves $40,000, a trophy and a $7,000 diamond championship pendant.

Gross, who was taught poker by her husband, spoke about the reaction she gets from other male players.

She said: “Actually it is invigorating. A lot of guys that I play with know me. Quite often I will walk up to a table and they’ll say: ‘Oh, no. Here comes trouble,’ which is kind of flattering.”

“I love the thrill of competing and the excitement of winning. Of course, the prize money is always nice. And the jewellery ain’t bad, either.”
