Speaking in Vancouver at the associations’ national conference, Bull Rutsey claimed that online casino’s are effectively costing the Canadian economy some $500 million and pose the single most real threat to Canada’s land based gaming industry.

In the past five years online gambling has grown from a $5 billion business to a $13-$14 billion industry.

Online Casinos.com quoted Mr Rutsey saying: “Millions just disappear – the money is sucked right out of the economy.”

“Internet gaming is a real competitive threat, and law enforcement needs to take steps to deal with the issue. It seems to be a case of benign neglect at this point.”

Rutsey also claimed that rather than provincial governments benefiting from their share of the $7 billion laid in bets in online casinos last year, profits are instead passing into the hands of organised criminals and private companies.

Online roulette guide launched

Thursday, April 6th, 2006

A new automated online casino system for PCs claims to help roulette players beat internet casinos.

The new system is aimed at helping players to “curb their greed and win” at online roulette tables and retails for around $250 online.

Developed by Samuel Blankson, author of How To Win At Online Roulette, limited copies of the system will be made available to the general public

The Ultimate Roulette System will run on any PC operating Microsoft Excel and works by removing the human decision process, and therefore the element of greed, from the roulette game.

Users key in their online roulette results and the system generates a displayed message of the next bet to place and the value of the stake, using a set of complex algorithms adapting automatically to the random shifting patterns of the game.

Blankson said: “The longer most players gamble the easier it becomes for them to lose their self control and allow their tendency to be greedy to surface. A great loss normally ensues at this point and the casino wins. Any great gambling system must first seek to eliminate this problem before providing any sophisticated play strategy or technique.”

Casino sold for £115m

Tuesday, April 4th, 2006

The exclusive Les Ambassadeurs casino in London’s Mayfair has been sold for £115 million to an Indonesian billionaire.

The casino witnessed falling trade after the July 7th bomb attacks on the capital last year and, although business has picked up slightly, owner London Clubs International (LCI) has made the decision to sell.

LCI bounced back from the brink of bankruptcy four years ago and it announced the sale of Les Ambassadeurs in a trading update, warning that disappointing profits at the club had affected its forecasts for the year ending March 31st 2006.

The high-rolling casino is a notorious haunt of oil sheikhs and international billionaires, but has failed to recover from the results of the London bombings, a run of good luck for its clients and a rise in unpaid gambling debts from £3 million to £5 million.

Shares in LCI fell after analysts reduced profit forecasts and the company announced the sale of Les Ambassadeurs to an Indonesian cigarette billionaire, Putera Sampoerna, one of the casino’s members.

LCI has revealed that it plans to focus on regional casinos because of new government gaming rules and will use profits from the sale of Les Ambassadeurs to reduce company debts.
