Paris hoping to win back wheels

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

Socialite Paris Hilton is hoping to win back her wheels after losing them in a poker match.

An online gaming site has offered the well-known Simple Life star an opportunity to win the equivalent $178,000 that her Bentley cost her before she lost it in a Vegas casino.

Warren Lush, Party Poker spokesman, said: “It is a simple deal for the Simple Life star.

“If she goes heads-up online in a no limit Texas Hold’em challenge against poker legend Mike Sexton and wins we’ll hand her the keys to a brand spanking new Bentley. Forget one night in Paris, we’re offering her one night to win her wheels back.”

Reports suggest that Paris has been banned from playing poker following her huge loss in Sin City last week.

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

The new Gambling.com Magazine is set to make its debut later this month.

It will be the only independent VIP magazine written for online high-rollers and will be a full-colour lifestyle glossy publication.

Magazine editor Michael Caselli says the new publication has an intended readership of around 100,000.

He said: “With high production values, it’s the careful blend of entertainment, strategy and cutting edge design, along with a degree of synergy with content from the website that makes this magazine a cut above the rest.

“This is very much a ‘coffee-table style’ magazine which we believe will have a very long ‘shelf life’ and our readers will be able to refer to time and time again.”

The first issue will feature interviews with billionaire Virgin owner Richard Branson and also Jennifer Harman, the world-famous high-stakes female poker player.

Have a punt on a pooch

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

Most people choose to gamble through the lottery, poker and casino games but nowadays you really can bet on anything.

As illustrated by this year’s Westminster dog show, which bookmaker TCBets.com is already taking a flurry of bets on from dog-loving punters.

Alongside the main prize of Best in Show, gamblers can bet on almost anything including the types of props the dogs might be using.

David Banks, TCBets CEO, said: “You can bet on which group the ‘Best in Show’ winner will be from. The current favourite is the herding group at 3/1. We offer prop bets such as: Will the winning dog be from east or west of the Mississippi?

“I felt that this would be a great event to bet on. It last two days and has six hours of prime time live coverage on the USA Network.”

He added that the firm had taken over 1,000 bets on the dog show already.

Greater regulation needed for online gambling

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

There is a need for greater regulation in the growing online gambling industry, according to a new survey.

Consultancy firm XTN Data found that some 80 per cent of people believe that the government needs to tighten up its control of the industry.

Also 33 per cent of respondents saud they felt that gambling sites from overseas were less turstworthy than those in the their home nation.

Half of those questioned said that there were unsure of many of the games on offer and thought that people should be given better instructions by casinos.

Greig Harper, founder of XTN Data, said: “As online gambling becomes more mainstream gaming operators need to do everything they can to attract new users including teaching them basic strategies for games.”

eCOGRA ‘Play it Safe’ venues working well

Friday, January 20th, 2006

The Fair Gaming Advocate (FGA) for the international standards body eCOGRA has reported positively on the service being provided for player disputes.

ECommerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance (eCOGRA) has said that the ‘Play it Safe’ seal is proving to be a very accurate indicator of reliable online casinos, according to onlinecasinonews.

The FGA report gas stated that overall the level of complaints remains very low at eCOGRA approved venues and represent only a minute percentage of the total volume of business involved.

Andrew Beveridge, eCOGRA CEO, said: “Since FGA operations commenced in April 2004, there has been a total of only 690 complaints, a miniscule percentage of the vast volumes of business handled over that time by some of the largest online groups in the business.”

Tex Rees, a FGA official also said that the success of the system could be measured by the low ratio of complaints to the total amount of business handled.

Over 95 per cent of any disputes were dealt with in less than 48 hours – a industry benchmark that eCOGRA has pointed out has not been obtained by any other ‘watchdogs’ or industry organisations.
